How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy works by using hypnosis to unlock hidden potential and to positively ‘reframe’ old thoughts and belief systems behind present day issues.
I facilitate the session but need your participation in the process to help you achieve any long term benefits.
Who may benefit from hypnotherapy?
Almost anyone that genuinely wants to bring about beneficial changes in their life.
It can be most helpful to those suffering with emotional and psychological disorders, unwanted habits and undersirable feelings.
What do you use hypnotherapy for?
Phobias, stress, anxiety, insomnia, overcoming fear, anger management, enhancing relationships, sexual problems, lack of confidence, low esteem, unwanted habits, addictions, improving performance, pain management, recovering from trauma and grief
When I determine it suitable, any human discomfort or issue that I think it is capable of improving.
What is your approach?
First, to make sure I treat the source of your presenting issue rather than its sysmptoms. Second, as all clients are different I taylor the therapy to meet your specific needs instead of using a generic approach.
It is often the case that only the symptoms of an issue are presented for treatment rather than the underlying cause(s). Treatment of symptoms at best only provides a short term solution. So I believe that it is worth ensuring at the outset that we discover what is at the root of your issue before embarking on any treatment. Once we do that, I should be in much better position to taylor the therapy to help you resolve your real issues. In this way there is a far greater chance that I can help you find a more permanent solution to your problems.
Who would you not recommend hypnotherapy?
I would not normally recommend it for those suffering from epilepsy, psychosis and those on medication for mental illness.
If the effects of these illnesses are only minimal then it may be possible to consider doing a session providing the right medical approval is given.
How long does a session take?
This will depend on your requirements but a first session normally takes 1.5 hours (because of case history) and subsequent sessions usually 1 hour.
It isn't a process that should be rushed so I recommend you always allow a little extra time (15-20min) in case the session runs over the allotted time frame.
How often do I need to come for sessions?
This will depend on your needs and requirements and how you get on in the initial session. It may take several sessions before benefits manifest themselves more permanently.
Before finishing a Hypnotherapy session I normally check with your higher self or mind to see if and when we need to do any further work together. This is usually the best indicator of whether any follow up sessions are required.
How much does it cost?
I normally negotiate the price depending on how many sessions you book but for a one-off session I charge £50 for 1hour, £65 for 1.5 hours and £70 for 2 hours (see Services)
Once the first session is over, we should know at that point if any more follow up sessions are required and we can then factor this into the price charged for that particular session. (see Services).
Do you record the session?
Normally yes but it always remains confidential. As it is a digitial recording I can either give you a copy of the file or for a small fee burn it onto a CD.
The sound file created from the digital recording is too big to e-mail but if you are able to bring a memory stick then I can give you a copy of the file after the session. Alternatively I can burn it onto a CD, although this may require some editing as these have a limit of 80 minutes of recording time. Also as it can take 10 - 15 minutes to burn it onto the CD it may not be practical to do all of this at the end of the session. The fee for the CD will depend on how much work is involved but if it is relatively straight forward then it will be between £5 to £10.
Do you combine hypnotherapy with other therapies?
Yes, when appropriate. It depends on the presenting issue but NLP and EFT techniques can dovetail quite well with hypnotherapy e.g. in the case of a phobia, say.
The most important thing is to find what works for you and to make sure we treat your presenting issue and not just its symptoms.
Are you able to do home visits?
I don’t usually do home visits because of the likelihood of interruption but this is something we can discuss.
If you live relatively local, are unable to travel and can provide the right sort of environment (quiet and un-interrupted) then it should be possible.
How long have you been doing Hypnotherapy for?
Over four years now, I did my initial training at EOS seminars and then did a number of specialist courses covering regression and past life regression at the Institute of Clinical Hypnosis(ICH).
The regression course run by the ICH utilises the diagnostic trance technique which I believe is an excellent Hypnotherapy tool. This diagnostic trance technique is featured in Havens & Walters book called Hypnotherapy Scripts, published by Brunner-Routledge where it is rightly given much emphasis.
Do I have to be hypnotised?
By definition hypnotherapy utilises hypnosis but the primary goal is to resolve your issues. We may find a solution to your problem without using hypnosis so it may not be necessary. It's more helpful to do what suits you because everybody is different.
